| See Sanders series, Boyce, and discussion in Douglas, vol 3, p215. Western Coil, formed in 1915, made Violet Ray 'medical' devices. William Turner Lewis joined company as radio expert in 1919, company began selling crystal sets in 1920 and tube sets in 1922. Made radios into 1930's. Advertised Lewis 3-Stage Receiver and WC-4 One Step Receiver in September, 1922 (Sanders). Advertised set, WC-5, in QST, June 1923. Also,WC-5-SW set advertised in Popular Radio, December 1923, by Ott Radio, Inc., of La Crosse WI. Some WC-5 and WC-5-SW ads show sets with "Lewis" name engraved. |
